A number of local restaurants can be found, ranging from traditional local fare
to international dishes. Most can be found near the castle or near the statue
of Saladin in the new town.
Food is a very important part of the Arab culture and is used to express
friendship, generosity and hospitality. Jordanians are proud to host visitors
at their home, no matter how modest their means. If you are lucky enough to be
invited, you are not expected to bring anything but you are expected to eat
everything!
While it could hardly be described as beautiful, Kerak is an impressive example
of the Crusaders' architectural military genius.
The best preserved halls and passageways are located underground and can only
be reached through a massive door – ask at the ticket desk.
The city of Kerak was the ancient capital of Moab. During Roman times it was
known as Characmoba.
